Local food economy Q & A, Edendale, Monday March 18, 7pm.  As part of Harvest Month LFC is organising a discussion on the opportunities and obstacles facing our local growers, local food retailers and catering businesses.

Preserving Workshop at Diamond Valley Library. Tuesday March 19 – 11.00am-12.30pm. Led by CWA vice-president Marie Vassallo. Bring your own jars, learn how to preserve & take home a little sample too. Bookings required see staff at the desk  or phone 9434 3809

Food Film Nights. Our “community gardens” evening went well this week.  It was interesting to hear about their involvement in community gardens from Louise of Heidelberg West, Sharon of Ivanhoe and Jenny of Diamond Creek. Next week, Wednesday March 20, 7:30pm, we shall view “The economics of happiness”, a film showing how localisation, rather than globalisation, can lead to happier and healthier communities. It just so happens that there is a conference on ‘The economics of happiness’ in Byron Bay this weekend!!

Chook owners. A message from Michele…” I have discovered that the Local Eltham Stockfeed Store in Main Rd. now sells Organic Chook Food. They have a range of organic mashes and pellets. 20kg is $32. It would be good to support this local store. I have been waiting 20 years for a local store to have good chook food …”

Those of you interested in Transition, may wish to read some of Nicole Foss’s thoughts, especially relating to localisation being better than globalisation. Nicole will be in Melbourne to speak April 21, Fitzroy Town hall.
