Creating and maintaining a wicking bed

In an area of poor shallow soil, low rainfall, wind and thirsty native trees, wicking beds can be the answer for people wishing to have a productive and beautiful garden. Wicking beds have lower water requirements and potentially less maintenance as they include a reservoir of water which wicks up to hydrate the roots of the plants above.
