Mariam Issa fled Somalia in 1991 on a packed boat that was one of few to make it across the seas to Kenya, where her family spent some time before arriving in Melbourne as refugees. Hers is a journey of resilience and trust, and about vitalising the power of community in her adopted homeland.
Mariam also teaches Somali cooking at her outdoor kitchen in the community garden in Brighton.
