Exciting events are being organised to celebrate local food during the month of March. As details are finalised they will be added to the LFC calendar which can be accessed from the ‘harvest month’ button on the right hand sidebar.

The Great Big Swap Day

Diamond Creek Community Expo

LFC will have a stall at this event on Sunday March 2, 4:30 -7pm. Come along and share your local food needs and wants!

Creative ideas needed

We are looking for a short phrase that can be used on signs throughout the area at places where food is grown for the purpose of sharing. Have you any suggestions?

Edible School gardens

Do you work in or are you a parent at a local school which has a food garden? It would be good to create a list and make a page on the website showcasing these – maybe a short description and a photo? Please send in to info@localfoodconnect.org.au.

More from the Sustainable Living festival

Beyond the supermarket-Open Food Network Showcase, 3.30 -5pm, Sat Feb 15, Birrarung Marr.

Kirsten Larsen and Serenity Hill will demo the Open Food Network – an online marketplace for local food. Showcasing food hubs and farmers from across the State, we’ll provide an opportunity to connect with what’s happening in your region.Hear from special guests: Nick Ray (Ethical Consumer Guide); Darren Sharp (Shareable.net); Tammi Jonas (Jonai Farms); Angie Orrego (Local Organics); and a speaker from Eaterprises.

Lots of interesting stories here. I like the story The Sharing Garden Shows the Way to a Moneyless Food System.

I hope you are able to manage your plants needs in this very high heat.
