Local food-related events

Vegetable seed saving workshop , Edendale, Saturday March 23, 1 -4:30pm. Seedsaving is basic to local food production. This workshop led by Wendy Mather, a very experienced teacher and seedsaver, will cover seed selection, harvesting, processing and storing to ensure the conservation of genetic heritage in our heirloom vegetable varieties. Examples of different vegetable seeds can be examined on the day. Afternoon tea will be provided. Workshop cost $25.

On Saturday 23rd March 2013, Allwood House will present the 13th annual Welcome Platypus festival. The event will have a focus on environmentally sustainable solutions and actions that can help us to conserve the natural world. For stalls and information stands, the day starts at 11am and ends at 5pm. Entertainment, music and food will continue until 9pm.

The final food film night for Harvest Month will be held on March 27, 7:30 pm at Edendale. We will see “Punk economics” and “Seeds blong yumi”. All welcome to attend.

Other food activities/information

The Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance set up because they felt that the Fed Government’s national food plan proposal would marginalise many Australians. Over the coming months AFSA will be consulting with those who helped prepare the working Paper for a Peoples food plan and to hear more ideas. Join them! Download the plan at

Luscombe Street Community Garden would like to proudly present our first comedy event, Garden Comedy Feast-ival. Taste test from a smorgasbord of ten Melbourne International Comedy Festival shows. All donations help fund the community garden so join us for a laugh, some cheeky drinks and a bite from our barbie.
